It hasn't even been a week, and I have to fly back to Indiana today. I've been in New York for 6 solid days and I have had a blast. I do not want to go back. If I were living here, I could take off with my life and become the man I need to be...a working entertainer in every aspect of the word. I had a meeting with an uber successful casting director yesterday and she said that I have a good head on my shoulders, great ideas, and that I will find something when I move to the city.
"I wish you were 30 years older. I have a great part that you would be fabulous in because of your energy and charisma. But the guy has to be 50."
"Ok, give me three weeks of heavy meth and I'll come back and see how my body looks," I said with a smile. "Or, I'll just wait until the third revival."
We laughed for a bit more and then I was off, feeling very good and successful about myself. It's just nice being here. Last night I had dinner with a good friend of mine S, who just landed the national tour of Jersey Boys. I am so proud of him because he has been auditioning and auditioning and auditioning to the point of near exhaustion. And FINALLY...this comes along. Good for him. I hope that it will happen for me sooner, obviously, but if it doesn't oh well. My life will go on.
I have also had the epiphany yesterday that I no longer wish to work in the hotel business. I have had a fabulous three years of priceless experience and education in the corporate world as well as the event planning world. And, in the future, that may come in handy. But right now, here in the city I adore, I want to pursue my life as a successful entertainer first, and a business man second. So my plan will be as originally intended. I will move in January and not before, unless forced, and save all of the money I earn. Except, of course for paying off credit cards and student loans.
I'm in the Kristin Chenoweth Starbucks on 67th and Columbus. It's my favorite one in the city, I don't know why. Maybe it's the old Jewish women that come in for the coffee. Or maybe, at lunchtime today, it's the NYC private school kids coming in for their lunches on their break. But mostly, it's not so crowded to be uncomfortable, but it's crowded enough to attain a small piece of anonymity for myself. (Also, it has the best seating. COMFY!)
On a happier note, I am almost positive that I met Tommy Hilfiger and Vera Wang at Industry bar on Monday. And if it was them, I got a piece of gum from Tommy. He chews Trident.
Ciao Bella,
-L
